Life is full of Surprises, and sometimes the best surprises come when you least expect it.
Pretty much the truth. The middle child never wants the drama!
When I was a child I envied the artistic abilities of my family. My grandmother played a mean piano and was highly creative as a fine-art crafter. My mother had amazing writing abilities and decorated her home as if out of a magazine. My aunt, was a gospel music composer, and my sister was an amazing artist with paints and canvas, and she went on to be a widely known, collegiate level, art history professor.
All of my beautiful girls!!
I tried, and tried to find my artistic niche, but alas it seemed my talent was in sports. I excelled in basketball, softball, and gymnastics. It was an ability that I alone had and shared with no one, but my heart yearned for a more artistic path.
As a single mother of five girls, I enrolled in law school in my early thirties. Some time after, I picked up an old antique film camera at a garage sale. I bought some black and white film, and started snapping pictures of my kids, not knowing what i was doing, but producing some very amazing and artistic images. From that moment, I knew I had to explore. I left law school to pursue my creative side. That was over ten years ago.
My youngest daughter, Josephina, often accompanies me to my shoots involving children. Here she is on one of my mermaid shoots helping Mermaid Chloe.
I taught myself everything I know about the art of photography. I was relentless in learning. Just a few years after starting KellyLynne Photography, I was asked by the very prestigious and international photography magazine, Rangefinder, if they could write a story about me and publish it, along with my images, in their annual wedding issue!
Yes I am a military momma! My oldest girl is a USMC Vet, and here, my daughter Chloe, receiving her wings serving in the U.S. Navy
Since then my work has appeared in Wall Street Journal, Parade Magazine, USA Today, Carolina Salt, Model Life Magazine and many other fine publications. I also worked as the primary photographer for famed best-selling author, Jeff Zaslow, in creating images for his latest, and sadly, last, best selling novel, The Magic Room. I travel all over the country and beyond, shooting weddings for the coolest and most amazing couples as well as traveling for portrait and mermaid sessions. I love this part of my job, traveling and making new friends with some of the worlds most incredible people!
Getting some love from one of my "tiny" clients!
I have been called the "Fairy Tale" photographer, but also the "eclectic" photographer. I am just that, eclectic. I have many different styles, rolled into my own brand, yet...people know when seeing one of these images "this must be a KellyLynne", and that makes me very happy! I approach my art, as if it were a movie playing out in my head. I see scenes, and emotions, not just in the faces of my clients, but backdrops that also emit emotions, or feelings. I want the whole image, to tell a story. Thus the "Fairy Tale" photographer !
With my daughter Vanessa and brand new baby Opal! But...don't call me grandma!
I have my five girls to thank for where I am today. They gave me strength and encouragement, and are my biggest and most loyal fans. After ten years in business, we decided to take a chance and move to our dream state. We now reside on a long stretch of island, in a beautiful coastal town, Emerald isle. It was a move, and a risk, well worth it. Generations of my family have loved and visited the coastal regions of North Carolina. We are proud to say, we call it home now.
Last but not least.......follow your dreams. If you feel it in your heart, but do not see that open door, it WILL come, it IS there. You just have to believe.

After moving my business from Grand Rapids MI, to the coast of NC, the first thing my daughter Annabelle wanted to do...was surf!
